Swift Family Homestead
The Swift Family Homestead located in Orange, NSW is a heritage restoration of a 1920s weatherboard house. This unique weatherboard house, with its wrap-around verandahs and French doors, stands out in Orange, a town known for predominantly blue stone houses. Completed in 2019, it was a meticulous six-month endeavour aimed at preserving the architectural authenticity of the residence. The project involved removing 80s additions, relocating the kitchen and living areas strategically, and choosing a trusted builder to respect the original lath and plaster walls.

Emily Swift and her husband, Ed, purchased the property in 2013, drawn to the property for its charming homestead style that they grew up with. Its proximity to the family-operated Printhie Wines, an award winning cellar door and hatted restaurant also added to its appeal. Inspired by its historical roots, we embarked on a restoration journey, carefully selecting pieces that honoured its heritage while integrating modern accents. It was important to embrace classic styles that would not date and that included the choice around the hardware.
Tradco played a pivotal role in achieving this delicate balance, providing hardware that were timeless and blended with contemporary living. The selected hardware included locks, hinges, door handles, light switches and door pulls. The antique brass finish on the door handles provides a perfect transition from the original 1920’s door handles and backing plates to a modern but sympathetic interpretation for the renovated areas of the house. The porcelain door handle was a favourite and the perfect transition piece from the ‘new’ living areas to the original part of the house.
